This approach is the original surgical technique to perform minimal invasive epicardial ablation lesion set to treat patients with very symptomatic (paroxysmal, persistent and long-standing persistent) atrial fibrillation. This treatment is a bailout after multiple failed endocardial ablations, intolerance for medication or patients with very large left atrial dimensions. Also, this treatment is a serious option for left atrial appendage closure for patients that are ineligible for dual antiplatelet and anticoagulants or with contraindications for percutaneous left atrial appendage closure.
