ISUOG Basic Training Online Programme

The Basic Training Online Program is the theoretical component of Basic Training. It is available as a program of self-study online courses in the ISUOG Academy. It provides a comprehensive introduction to essential topics on ultrasound in obstetrics and gynecology, taking you through a systematic approach to the scan. On completion of the program you will have the knowledge needed to perform an unsupervised ultrasound scan, and be confident to recognise when a patient needs to be referred.

The Six-step approach is one of 30 lectures contained in the ISUOG Basic Training Online Programme. This approach came from ISUOG’s Outreach work in several places worldwide, where there was a need to simplify ultrasound so trainees could learn standardised steps quickly. Obstetrical ultrasound is challenging to perform because it depends on the operator to acquire the images; it is operator-dependent. Unlike CT and MRI, where the patient lays on the bed, and the images come out automatically in a predetermined orientation, the sonographer and sonologist acquire the images in ultrasound. Hence, there are technical aspects involved from the operator's perspective. These six steps, tested in Outreach settings for two or three years, were found to be quite effective. On the Basic Training course, trainees learn the steps and obtain information relevant to that pregnancy, based on ISUOG guidelines.

The full course, available here, containing 30 lectures, videos and interactive tasks, formative and summative assessment.
