read more ↘ the supraspinatus was torn and retracted medially, leaving the remaining tendon on the footprint intact. The underlying capsule and surrounding muscle of the supraspinatus was also intact.
We used Ethibond sutures in a figure-of-eight pattern to pull the retracted central tendon out laterally to the tendon still attached to the footprint. This was a tendon-to-tendon repair. We reinforced this with additional figure-of-eight stitches and also used some additional side-to-side stitches. The postoperative MRI appears to have reestablished the normal contour of the tendon.
