The technique involves transferring the origin of the abductor pollicis brevis (APB) tendon to the flexor carpi radialis (FCR) tendon proximal to the FCR tunnel. The procedure is generally performed in conjunction with an open carpal tunnel release. It reliably restores tip pinch and meets the criteria for successful tendon transfer: optimal straight line vector of pull, minimal donor deficit, no long subcutaneous tendon passage, no pulley required, and synergy of action with thumb function.
