However if the components are mal-aligned , due to Metal on Metal articulation the accelerated wear can shed metal ions and cause high blood Chrome and Cobolt levels. This may be harmful at the cellular level. These metal ions cause metalosis and Pseudo-tumours within the hip joint and early failure.
This new assistive technology looks very promising and has the potential to reduce mal-positioning and thus reduce the early failure rate. A/Professor Hazratwala is on the research and development team for this assistive technology.
