On this clinical case the robot is used on the place of the microscope. Conventional approach was done to explore the plexus and prepare the reconstruction, using sural nerve graft. When the microsurgical steps were supposed to start the robot was docked behind the patient and the micro nerve anastomosis using 9-0 suture was performed, under tele-robotic manipulation. On this case fibrin glue and wrapping using colagen nerve conduits (Neuragen-Integra) were added to the technique to prevent adhesions and optimize the nerve axonal flow.
The benefits of tele-robotic manipulation on microsurgical procedures include:
1- great visual magnification with HD resolution and 3D images,
2- best ergonomic situation for the surgeon, in any anatomic area,
3- physiological tremor filter
4- amplification of surgeon's dexterity and functional range of motion
The robotic system improves not only how good we can see, as the microscope, but also how good we can do.
