Similar to anywhere in the world, ACL injuries are on rapid rise in India too, ...
read more ↘ The main difference is in etiology of injury. In India, ACl's are toen due to two wheeler's accidents and househols or occupational injuries in home & not mainly due to sports. Many repairable ACLs are sacrificed because we have sen excellent results with ACl reconstruction surgery.
A 40 years old male came to us with an unstable & painful knee for last 1 month. In June 2015, he sustained a fall in Kumbh mela ( one of the largest religeous Indian fair in the world). Clinical examination revealed Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) laxity without meniscus injury, PCL or any other ligament involvement. MRI showed soft tissue avulsion of ACL from femur. His avulsed ACL was reattached to its anatomical site using pullout sutures. This arthroscopic ACL surgery was done to save his natural ACL.
After 6 months, this patient was able to do all normal activities without any recurrent synovitis or effusion. As seen in video he has full movements without any pain. Grade 1 laxity of ACL is prsent on Lachman's test but not on Drawer's.
As published in few papers in last five years, ACL repair by reattachment for soft tissue avulsions can be a good alternative.
