TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is designed for healthcare professionals, including nurses, family medicine physicians, internists, emergency department physicians, neurologists, and others who care for patients with acute and chronic cerebrovascular disease.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After this activity, participants will be able to:
- Recall when and how to transfer patients to a thrombectomy-capable center;
- Recognize symptoms of large vessel occlusion;
- Identify patients at risk of intracranial vascular malformations and when to refer them to a neurosurgical or endovascular subspecialist for further management;
- Categorize the indications for endovascular care of patients with acute stroke;
- State guidelines and indications for antithrombotics in secondary stroke prevention;
- Describe current recommendations for the acute management of patients with signs or symptoms of acute ischemic stroke;
- Discuss occult mechanisms of cardioembolic stroke and how this knowledge can be used in patient care;
- Compare the benefits and risks of endovascular intervention for large vessel occlusion.
