Overview

This course will be an overview of pediatric foot deformities and their management, from the common and simple to the rare and complex. This will be accomplished through case-based sessions with brief didactic introductions. At the end of the activity participants should be comfortable identifying benign conditions that are managed with observation, as well as potentially challenging deformities that require complex correction. There will also be a discussion of bracing options for corrected deformities and their potential pitfalls.

Learning Objectives

After participating in this activity, clinicians should be able to:

  1. Differentiate between conditions that need treatment with casting or surgery versus those that can be observed
  2. Identify conditions that might have a subtle presentation yet need further evaluation and treatment
  3. Recognize minimally invasive surgical options in certain conditions. Use braces appropriately as maintenance rather than treatment, and to avoid pitfalls

Target Audience

Orthopedic surgeons, pediatricians, physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists, physical therapists, orthotists, physician assistants, and nurse practicioners.

Accreditation

The NYU Grossman School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
