The pituitary gland plays an enormously important role in human development, functioning, and aging. Pituitary disorders can have a profound impact on multiple organ systems, but many practitioners, including endocrinologists, may not be fully aware of the widespread impact of the pituitary gland in health and disease. This course is a comprehensive overview and discussion of the evaluation; management; and medical, surgical, and radiation treatments of pituitary disease.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
By the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Develop increased awareness of the pituitary tumors
- Describe radiological investigations of the pituitary tumors
- Interpret a visual field exam in relationship to a pituitary tumor
- Explore the neuropsychological changes in patients with pituitary disease
- Overview the treatment for hypopituitarism
- Overview the obesity management in patients with pituitary and hypothalamic disease
- Evaluate the diagnosis and medical treatment of acromegaly, Cushing disease, prolactinoma
- Analyze surgical management of pituitary macroadenomas and functional pituitary tumors
- Communicate modalities and indications of radiation treatment for pituitary tumors
TARGETED AUDIENCE
This CME course is intended for physicians in endocrinology, neurosurgery, internal medicine, family medicine, and general medicine, as well as physician assistants, nurse practitioners, medical students, interns, residents, fellows, and other subspecialists and allied health professionals who desire to update their medical knowledge in pituitary disease.
