OVERVIEW

This one-day course is designed to provide faculty and physicians-in-training an overview and update on the diagnosis and management of intra- and extrathoracic sarcoidosis. Despite its 19th-century origin and more than 100 years of inquiry, much about sarcoidosis remains unknown. This course will review current standards in diagnosis and management, and describe developments in the understanding and treatment of this multisystem disease. Lectures will be delivered by experts in the field, highlighting updates in sarcoidosis pathophysiology, evolving diagnostic techniques, standardization of clinical phenotyping, emerging research strategies, and new treatment options.

Participants will have the opportunity to be updated with the latest knowledge on sarcoidosis and the occasion to discuss their points of interest directly with our distinguished speakers. An emphasis on the disease’s overrepresentation and impact in the minority community is stressed.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After participating in this activity, clinicians should be able to:

  1. Discuss updates in immunopathogenesis in sarcoidosis and new targets for therapy
  2. Interpret the evidence on managing patients with fibrotic sarcoidosis including the use of antifibrotic and/or immunosuppressive therapies
  3. Identify clinically useful endpoints in sarcoidosis tailored to specific organ phenotypes and measures of quality of life
  4. Describe the racial disparities inherent to sarcoidosis disease course and mortality and explain the factors that may be responsible

TARGET AUDIENCE

Pulmonologists, Cardiologists, Rheumatologists, Dermatologists, Neurologists, Radiologists, Pathologists, Physicians in Training, Advanced Practice Providers, and Other Health Care Professionals involved in the management of patients with Sarcoidosis
