Overview
Noting the first half century of ISPAD, this year´s motto “Inclusion & Innovation in Pediatric Diabetes”, marks important departures from previous paradigms. The current cutting-edge topics in pediatric diabetes include novel basic research, translational approaches, precision medicine, and the advent of artificial intelligence in diabetes.
We are moving from an era of hormone substitution to disease modification with immune modulation, beta cell replacement, and creating the most advanced automated insulin delivery systems. However, disparities in access to insulin and technologies, discrimination, and diverse challenges that people with diabetes are facing in life around the world cannot be ignored. Indeed, Lisbon hosts the oldest institution to provide insulin for poor people founded in 1923.
Portugal has been a country of sea-discoveries but also a country of inclusion of people
arriving from the most different regions around the globe for many centuries. Lisbon, a pearl of culture and tradition in the most western corner of Europe, has been an extraordinary place to convene since the 15th century. Going abroad to meet new ideas and cultures is the hallmark of Portuguese people, which will inspire the ISPAD family to gather for an exciting learning experience not to be missed.
These 3,5 days of face-to-face meeting will be a great opportunity for scientists, allied healthcare professionals, partner organizations, industry representatives, and people with diabetes around the world to come together and share knowledge, latest research, and best practices among the international pediatric diabetes community.
We very much look forward to your participation in an outstanding congress in Lisbon, a city that facilitates the inclusion of cultures and innovation for the future, to achieve life-long health for people with diabetes worldwide!
