REGISTER for the upcoming ESRS webinar on “Hot Topics in Obstructive Sleep Apnea – A European View”. On Friday, 10 March 2023 at 14:00 – 16:00 CET (8:00 - 10:00 AM ET), Prof. Dr. Dirk Pevernagie will lead an expert panel of 5 presenters and subsequent discussion on this critical topic.
1. The diagnosis of OSA revolutionised – Dr. Erna Sif Arnardottir (IS)
Dr. Arnardottir will talk about the future of OSA diagnosis based on the work of the Sleep Revolution consortium. Her talk will cover self-applied polysomnography validation, double set-up with traditional PSG, objective quality, subjective experience, and enhanced machine learning algorithms for analysis.
2. OSA comorbidities – Prof. Dr. Maria Bonsignore (IT)
Prof. Dr. Bonsignore will speak about the bidirectional relationships between OSA and other diseases, a topic that is currently under investigation. She will delve deeper into the complexities of patients encountered in clinical practice as well as optimal management options beyond PAP treatments.
3. Evidence-based treatment of OSA – Prof. Dr. Walter McNicholas (IE)
Prof. Dr. McNicholas will review data regarding the efficacy of CPAP therapy for OSA, focusing on more recent evidence, namely a report prepared for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service on long-term CPAP outcomes in OSA.
4. To treat or not to treat? the Baveno perspective – Prof. Dr. Winfried Randerath (DE)
Prof. Dr. Randerath will discuss new concepts to better select patients for positive airway pressure treatment. This guides to new classification systems, focusing on patient relevant outcome parameters and prognosis.
5. National knowledge-driven management of OSA – the Swedish approach – Prof. Dr. Ludger Grote (SE)
Prof. Dr. Grote will discuss the nationwide launch of the Swedish initiative to improve knowledge-based management for OSA patient management and will delve deeper into the components of the programme.
