OVERVIEW

*In-Person and Live Webinar Attendance Options

This course will provide APPs and other healthcare providers with the latest and most up-to-date guidelines, and diagnostic and management modalities in GI niches not typically discussed in formal training. Thursday will focus on gut health and diet in IBD, as well as a social/networking event and a keynote speaker. Friday will cover bariatric endoscopy and weight loss medications, enteral nutrition, multiple hepatology topics, pelvic floor dysfunction, and more. Small-group case discussions engage participants' involvement in creating differentials and diagnosing acute GI/hepatology disease, and care related to advanced endoscopy procedures. Our goal continues to focus on the gastroenterology education of APPs as they play an integral role in this field, although all providers are welcome.

OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  1. Assess current evidence for dietary therapies in IBD
  2. Identify common gastrointestinal symptoms that overlap
  3. Integrate evidence-based strategies to distinguish IBD from IBS in gastroenterology patients
  4. Review the management of IBS in patients with IBD
  5. Assess the evidence for early versus delayed surgery in Crohn’s disease patients
  6. Identify which patients are appropriate to refer for evaluation for endoscopic obesity management
  7. Discuss how to manage common complications related to tube feeding
  8. Identify when a liver biopsy is needed in the diagnosis or work-up of presumed drug induced liver injury
  9. List medications that are approved for the use of alcohol abuse disorder
  10. Outline the initial work-up prior to referral to a pelvic floor specialist
