Overview

This symposium highlights current trends, issues, and emerging therapies in the field of vascular and endovascular surgery for patients with aortic disease. Healthcare professionals providing care to patients with aortic disease will gain and extend knowledge in order to improve care delivery and outcomes for this patient population in both specialized settings as well as across the care continuum. Diagnosis and treatment paradigms for aortic and structural heart diseases, including medical, endovascular, surgical, and hybrid options, will be presented.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Identify patient groups at increased risk for developing aortic pathology.
  • Apply the correct diagnostic and surgical techniques on the appropriate aortic pathology.
  • Choose the appropriate imaging technique to identify aortic pathologies.
  • Discuss current trends of aortic surgery.
  • Apply current practice guidelines when planning medical management and surgical interventions for patients with aortic disease.
  • Discuss the effect of genetics and family history on risk of aortic disease.

Target Audience

This symposium is designed for vascular surgeons, cardiothoracic surgeons, interventional radiologists, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, perfusionists, primary care providers, and other health care professionals involved in the care and treatment of patients with aortic diseases.

Accreditation

UVA Health Continuing Education designates this live activity for a maximum of 6.5 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
