Overview
In response to feedback from previous courses, the annual Swedish Neurology Update will continue to address the persistent need for neurologists, primary care providers, and other specialists to work together to provide the best care possible for our patients and their families. Neurological diseases are most effectively treated by a multidisciplinary team which includes primary care physicians and other specialists working closely with a neurologist. This course is designed to disseminate practical knowledge and build partnerships by providing up-to-date, evidence-based information pertaining to the neurologic complaints commonly encountered by primary care providers with the objective of enhancing the knowledge-base and competency of all attendees. Diagnostic criteria, approaches to initial clinical management and when to refer to a specialist will be discussed, aiding attendees in providing high-quality, efficient patient care and increasing successful patient outcomes.
Learning Objectives
By attending this course, the participant will provide better patient care through an increased ability to:
- Recognize typical symptoms of common neurologic conditions and describe how to differentiate them.
- Perform meaningful neurological examinations and initiate appropriate diagnostic testing.
- Compare available treatment and management options and identify current criteria for prescribing medications.
- Analyze appropriate imaging when evaluating patients that may require referral to a specialist and assess when referral is appropriate.
- Anticipate common complications and risk factors and manage patient expectations regarding prognosis and rehabilitation.
Target Audience
This conference is intended for all interested providers in primary care, family practice, internal medicine and its subspecialties, OBGYN, general surgery, emergency medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, including residents, fellows, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners and medical assistants.
