OVERVIEW

The population of adults with congenital heart disease (CHD) is growing exponentially as a result of improved outcomes of medical, surgical and catheter-based treatment strategies. As CHD patients live longer, there is a greater need for high resolution coronary imaging in addition to anatomic imaging, increased use of electrophysiology devices that are MRI unsafe, and higher prevalence of metallic implants that adversely affect MRI image quality. For these patients, CT is increasingly the preferred advanced imaging modality. CT in CHD combines the knowledge and skill sets of both pediatric and adult cardiology and radiology.


These three one-hour webinar series will explore CHD through the lens of CCT.

Technical considerations in congenital pediatric CT

CT evaluation of vascular rings and coarctation of the aorta

Description:

This course will provide an overview of the utilization of cardiac CT in the evaluation of patients with suspected vascular rings and coarcation of the aorta. The use of cardiac CT to evaluate for post operative complications with also be addressed.

Learning objectives:

  1. Describe the incidence, presentation and anatomy of common variants of vascular rings and pulmonary vascular slings with CT examples.
  2. Explain technical considerations for CT acquisition in this population (including pitfalls). Describe the utility of virtual bronchoscopy and functional scanning.
  3. Describe coarctation of the aorta and the role of CT in the pre and post-repair evaluation including assessment for late complications.
Cardiac CT of pulmonary veins in congenital heart disease

This course will provide an overview of the role of cardiac CT and technical considerations in imaging anomalous pulmonary veins, as well as pulmonary vein stenosis pre and post-intervention.

Learning objectives:

  1. Describe the role and technical considerations of cardiac CT in anomalous pulmonary veins.
  2. Describe the role and technical considerations of cardiac CT in pre-intervention pulmonary vein stenosis.
  3. Describe the role and technical considerations of cardiac CT in post-intervention pulmonary vein stenosis.
