Significant advancements have been made in the field of esophageal disease. This CME and MOC accredited course is focused on emerging concepts and controversies in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment of individuals having benign or pre-malignant, complex esophageal disease. Featuring a multidisciplinary faculty of national leaders and an interactive format, the program includes a round of short didactic presentations focused on novel treatment options; discussion of emerging issues in clinical care; and multidisciplinary panel discussion of challenging, complex patient cases. Topics will include gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Barrett's esophagus, hiatal and paraesophageal hernias, achalasia and other esophageal motility disorders, esophageal diverticula, eosinophilic esophagitis, and functional disease of the upper gastrointestinal tract.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After participating in this activity, clinicians should be able to:
- Identify the appropriate diagnostic testing – such as high-resolution manometry, functional lumen imaging probe (FLIP), pH testing, pH-impedance testing, endoscopy, and biopsy--used to apply in clinical practice to assess patients with various esophageal symptoms and disease
- Interpret the results of diagnostic testing in order to guide and select appropriate treatment options for esophageal symptoms and disease
- Identify appropriate treatment options, their potential benefits and risks, and clinical scenarios for their effective use
- Identify the evidence, current options, and appropriate indications for the endoscopic and surgical treatment of esophageal disease
TARGETED AUDIENCE
Gastroenterologists; general, foregut, and thoracic surgeons; radiologists; pathologists; gastroenterology fellows; surgical residents and fellows; primary care physicians; and other health professionals involved in the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with esophageal disease

Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
