Overview

Clinically important advances in specific areas of cardiovascular (CV) medicine and surgery have influenced the care of many aspects of patient care. Research studies and clinical trials are continually expanding the evidence base related to the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with CV disease. In addition, new technologies, new drugs, and new devices are expanding the therapeutic choices available to clinicians.
This educational activity is designed to provide a succinct review and state of the art update on the prevention, diagnosis, and management of CV disease in your clinical practice.

Learning Objectives

  • Define and describe current strategies for the prevention and management of hyperlipidemia, hypertension and metabolic disease.
  • Critically appraise management strategies for stable angina, complex coronary and microvascular disease.
  • Review practical applications for the management of tricuspid disease and  mitral disease, including the role of guideline-directed medical therapy  and surgical strategies.
  • Analyze the clinical applications and treatments for the management of aortic valve disease.
  • Define strategies for the management of heart failure and cardiomyopathy, including GDMT in patients with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), diagnosis and management of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and selection and decision-making in left ventricular assisted devices and transplantation.
  • Appraise management strategies for new-onset AFib, including interventional options to mitigate stroke risk.

Target Audience

The course is directed to physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and all healthcare providers with an interest in cardiovascular medicine and surgery.

Cleveland Clinic Center for Continuing Education designates this live activity for a maximum of 8.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
