Overview

General neurologists need periodic and regular updates about many hot topics in neuromuscular disorders. Evidence-based literature grows by the day and indications and contraindications change. Also, new medications are emerging and approved regularly which exacerbates the need to learn about their place in the treatment paradigm and to navigate the high-price dilemma. There is also a need to broaden the scope of the general neurologists on the emerging literature of hereditary neuropathies and idiopathic inflammatory myopathies. There is growing literature on increased utilization of genetic testing in the diagnosis of neuromuscular diseases which need to be addressed. This seminar is designed to have national and world experts talk about emerging therapies and updates on different neuromuscular disorders such as chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, neuromuscular complications of cancer, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and myasthenia gravis.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the conference, participants should be able to:

  • Apply new genetic tests to diagnose hereditary neuromuscular disorders.
  • Identify appropriate investigations and medications for seronegative myasthenia gravis.
  • Identify and unravel the complexity of limb-girdle muscular dystrophy.
  • Identify the clinical utility of muscle biopsies.
  • Identify, prevent and treat complications of chronic corticosteroids therapy.
  • Implement new diagnostic guidelines for POTS.

Target Audience

Designed for individuals interested in learning about new advances in the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders, who are primarily neurologists, physiatrists, physician assistants, nurses, neurology fellows, residents, and students.

Accreditation
