OVERVIEW
This annual course updates providers on a diverse range of topics including evaluation of liver tests, non-invasive markers of fibrosis, viral hepatitis, autoimmune liver disease, alcohol and metabolic associated fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, portal hypertension, primary liver cancer and liver transplantation. The conference will focus on recent advances, publications and expert opinions. In addition to didactic lectures, case presentations will be included to make the activity interactive and practical.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This course is designed for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and specialists in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and associated disciplines caring for patients with liver disease.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Analyze indications and interpretation of viral hepatitis testing and identify those patients who would benefit from antiviral therapy and continued monitoring after treatment.
- Implement appropriate management and identify potential therapies for hepatic steatohepatitis.
- Explain the pathophysiology and manifestations of portal hypertension.
- Apply improved treatment strategies in the clinical management of complications related to portal hypertension.
- Identify the indications for liver transplantation.
- Describe recent advancements in the field and policies changes regarding organ allocation.
- Apply criteria for early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of liver masses including hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma.
