Overview

The 51st Annual Washington University Kilo Diabetes Symposium is developed and implemented inter-professionally by physicians, nurses and pharmacists. The agenda will focus on the following areas: Endocrinology Updates; Diabetes Technology; TYPE 2 Diabetes; Revisited; Diabetes Complications; GLP1 Update and Inpatient Diabetes. This activity will provide education through lectures, demonstrations, case presentations and questions & answers. This course intends to provide practical and state-of-the-art information about the diagnosis and management of diabetes and common endocrine disorders that can be implemented across specialties. Diabetes and endocrine diseases require a multi-disciplinary approach for optimal management this activity is designed with a multi-disciplinary faculty from Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes Jewish Hospital. The intended goal of this activity is increased knowledge, competence and performance and enhanced patient care.

Learning Objectives

 At the conclusion of this activity participants will be able to: 

  • Plan appropriate treatment based on individual patient diagnosis, needs and complications of thyroid disease.
  • Develop accurate assessment of risks versus benefits of hormone replacement therapy to assist with shared decision-making.
  • Improve patient outcomes, including hemoglobin A1c, glucose time-in-range and reduction in hypoglycemia with individualized use of diabetes technology.
  • Prevent maternal complications and fetal anomalies by earlier screening for diabetes in susceptible patients.
  • Diagnose metabolic dysfunction associated liver disease (MASLD) in order to treat it early and effectively, thus preventing end-stage liver disease.
  • Utilize GLP1 receptor agonists to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with obesity.
  • Develop a team approach for management of diabetes and newly diagnosed hyperglycemia in the hospital.

Target Audience

This day and a half in-person symposium is designed for adult and pediatric endocrinologists, internists, hospitalists, family & general practice physicians, nurses, pharmacists, but may be of interest to nurse practitioners, physician assistants and certified diabetic educators and other health care professionals who care for patients with diabetes.

In support of improving patient care, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

American Medical Association (AMA)
Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis designates this live activity for a maximum of 9.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
