OVERVIEW

The International Masters Anterior Course is designed to provide an intensive 3-day education on surgical techniques, including modifications and extensions, for primary and revision direct anterior approach total hip arthroplasty.

An internationally renowned faculty will share their expertise in the anterior approach through a combination of didactic presentations, interactive case-based panel discussions, and live surgical demonstrations.

Attendees will have the opportunity to enhance their surgical skills through hands-on training in the Basics and/or Advanced bioskills labs.

  • In the Basics lab, attendees will explore techniques for primary THA with the direct anterior approach.
  • Offered for the first time ever, the optional Advanced lab will focus on techniques for revision procedures and extensile approaches for more complex primary cases.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Orthopaedic surgeons, fellows, residents, and other healthcare professionals whose scope of practice includes the management of patients with hip pathology and who want to expand their knowledge of and skills in performing the direct anterior approach for primary and revision total hip arthroplasty.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Describe key steps in the surgical procedures for primary, revision, and complex anterior approach total hip arthroplasty (THA), including how these procedures differ with regard to other THA approaches.

Compare clinical outcomes of anterior approach THA with those of other surgical approaches for THA.

Discuss the design rationale, features, and clinical outcomes of implants intended for anterior approach THA.

Review various modifications, nuances, and extensile options for performing the anterior approach, including with and without a special table or extension.

Evaluate technologies that have evolved to facilitate anterior approach THA, such as dedicated instrumentation, specialized surgical tables, computer navigation, robotics, and other enabling technologies.

Identify patients for whom anterior approach THA may be indicated, difficult, and/or contraindicated.

Describe the impact of perioperative treatment protocols on clinical outcomes of anterior approach THA.

Summarize the potential intraoperative and postoperative complications of anterior approach THA.

Discuss the role of outpatient total joint arthroplasty programs in facilitating same-day discharge following anterior approach THA.

ACCREDITATION

The Foundation for Orthopaedic Research & Education (FORE) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The maximum number of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM available for this activity will be announced soon.
