Overview
This activity will enhance participants’ knowledge base of common gastrointestinal (GI) problems and increase their confidence in managing these issues by providing a review of basic principles of pediatric GI care. Particular attention will be paid to the diagnosis and initial management of the GI problems most commonly seen by the primary caregiver. Formal question and answer periods paneled by the faculty will follow each session.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals dedicated to the treatment of children and youth in a school setting.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the diagnosis and management of constipation in various age groups;
- Identify management options for children with Irritable Bowel Syndrome;
- Describe how to employ a multidisciplinary approach to manage Irritable Bowel Syndrome in pediatric patients;
- Identify when to refer a pediatric patient with gastroenterological issues to a specialist;
- State how SARS-COV-2 infection affects the GI tract of pediatric patients.
