STATEMENT OF NEED

More than four million Americans are affected by patellofemoral conditions, which can cause debilitating pain or instability and hinder mobility if left untreated. Course highlights include treatments for both patellar instability and patients with pain/arthritis, return-to-sport guidelines, surgical demonstrations in the Bioskills Education Laboratory, and more. Renowned faculty from the HSS Patellofemoral Center will share knowledge using the latest technology and increasingly less invasive methods. This activity is targeted for orthopaedic surgeons, primary care sports medicine physicians, family practice physicians, pediatricians, pediatric orthopaedic surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, athletic trainers, and physical therapists

TARGET AUDIENCE

This activity is targeted to Orthopaedic Surgeons, primary care sports medicine physicians, family practice physicians, pediatricians, pediatric orthopaedic surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, athletic trainers, and physical therapists 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

HSS continuing medical professional education activities are intended to improve the quality of patient care and safety. At the completion of the course, the participant will:

  • Describe the evidence and selection criteria for non-operative vs. operative techniques for treating patellofemoral conditions.
  • Identify the indications and contraindications for the various non-operative treatment options for patellofemoral pain. They will determine when to use or refer patients for each treatment method.
  • Identify the indications and contraindications for the various surgical treatment options for patellofemoral pain. They will also determine when to use or refer patients for each surgical methods.
  • Identify appropriate post-operative rehabilitation guidelines and return-to-play parameters following patellofemoral surgery. They will prescribe these guidelines in practice.

This activity has been approved for 6 on-site AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and 4.5 online AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
