Event info

As lung cancer remains the number one cause of cancer deaths worldwide, the need to continuously assess the impact of our therapeutic options remains a high priority across all disciplines involved in the care of these patients. The thoracic session of the conference will cover many of the new guidelines, treatment options, and therapeutic discussions occurring worldwide in the management of the patient with NSCLC (non-small cell lung cancer). Some of the topics covered in the conference include tobacco cessation, diagnosing and managing lung cancer in former smokers, molecular testing, immunotherapy, treating the patient with ALK+ adenocarcinoma, and assessing for complications resulting from new therapies. There will be an update on the management of patients with relapsed small cell lung cancer, discussion of robotic surgery in the management of thoracic cancers, and guidelines for managing the patient with ground glass opacities (GGO’s).

Gastrointestinal cancers encompass a wide range of organ systems from the esophagus to the rectum including hepatobiliary and pancreas. The purpose of the GI session is to improve cancer care for patients throughout these systems. This year’s conference will focus on changes in the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines for gastric, pancreas, colon, and liver cancer as well as introduce nonclinical barriers such as health literacy and caregiver stress. Finally, the conference will strive to simplify genetic testing from the perspective of a geneticist and pathologist.
