The International Association of Parkinsonism and Related Disorders
More than fifty years ago, the International Association of Parkinsonism and Related Disorders was established by the World Federation of Neurology to promote and monitor research developments, as well as to foster communication among neuroscientists in the field. Today, this association is an international, professional association of clinicians, scientists and other healthcare professionals who are interested in neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson‘s disease, secondary parkinsonisms, hyperkinetic and hypokinetic movement disorders, and more generally any disorder affecting muscle tone and motor control. The most common clinical disorders and/or symptoms of interest to us are:
- Genetic and idiopathic Parkinson‘s disease and other Parkinsonism.
- Genetic and idiopathic disorders with dystonia
- Huntington‘s disease and other disorders with chorea
- Cerebellar disorders
- Tremor, myoclonus, tics, ballism
- Huntington‘s disease, chorea, and Gilles de la Tourette‘s syndrome
- Psychogenic and psychiatric movement disorders
- Movement disorders-related non-motor disorders, such as disorders of the autonomic nervous system, mood disorders, sleep disorders (including excess daytime sleepiness, REM sleep behaviour disorders, restless legs syndrome, and periodic limb movements), and psychiatric disorders (including Impulse control disorders, executive dysfunction, dementia, delusions and hallucinations).
