September 20, 2024

This session explores innovative approaches to managing 'OFF' episodes in Parkinson's disease patients. The presentation delves into the limitations of traditional oral carbidopa/levodopa regimens and on-extender therapies, highlighting the prevalence and impact of 'OFF' episodes on patient quality of life. Attendees will learn about the pharmacokinetic advantages of on-demand therapies, including apomorphine injection, levodopa inhalation powder, and apomorphine sublingual film. The session will discuss the efficacy, tolerability, and practical considerations of these on-demand treatments. Additionally, the presentation will address the potential drawbacks of relying solely on on-extenders, including increased dyskinesia risk and medication non-adherence. The goal is to equip healthcare providers with knowledge to optimize Parkinson's disease management by incorporating on-demand therapies earlier in the treatment paradigm, potentially improving patient outcomes and quality of life.
