It’s 3AM and you are the attending on-call. You are headed to the hospital to evaluate a patient. As a fellow, the medical team would look to your attending, but now it is you they turn to for important decisions. Using a case-based review, this session will discuss treatment options when mechanical circulatory support is needed with consideration given to the type of hospital you are working in and available options for escalation.

  1.     Identify different strategies in caring for complex myocardial infarction and shock patients
  2.     Understand how treatment decisions my vary by hospital type
  3.     Discuss the issues around risk, benefit, and futility in these scenarios
