Carotid revascularization is one of the most studied procedures in medicine.  Rarely has any form of therapy sparked such a debate as has carotid artery angioplasty and stenting (CAS), yet more than 20 years of data prove that carotid stenting has achieved parity with carotid surgery for stroke prevention.  The data supports the recent update to the National Coverage Decision for carotid stenting from the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services to equal coverage for carotid surgery.  This update gives us an opportunity to change our approach to the treatment of carotid atherosclerosis.  Part one of this webinar series discusses the data surrounding the CMS update and the details of the changes with a unique perspective as physicians from three different specialties that treat this disease share their expert opinions.
